Position Summary
The Laboratory Technologist – R&D will be responsible for supporting laboratory staff and assisting in projects related to research and development. The Laboratory Technologist – R&D will perform laboratory procedures from a wide range of biological samples and report results in a clear/organized fashion to managers.
Responsibilities List
- Handle incoming samples for accessioning, organizing, storing, and processing
- Process biological samples through DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) library prep
- Support Manager with laboratory activities and operation
- Maintain department inventory, storage and supplies usage
- Assist in SOP development
- Conduct background research in new technologies and procedures
- Develop assays for validation and troubleshoot as necessary
- Establish, execute, review and evaluate laboratory procedures and policies and procedures for operating functions of laboratory
- Perform activities to fulfill report requirements and record retention as established by accrediting agencies
- Resolve administrative and technical problems
- Interpret data and results and communicate results to managers
- Adhere to quality management system and laboratory SOPs
- Maintain laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning, performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration/certification, as required
- Other duties as required
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in life science or related discipline and one year of laboratory experience
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of aseptic technique with focus on pipetting (lab etiquette)
- Effective data trending, document control, and technical bench skills
- Sample accessioning, tracking, and storage experience
- Microbiology experience/knowledge
- BLS2 working experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Experience with nucleic acid isolation (DNA/RNA) of various sample types, PCR, library preparation for Next-Generation Sequencing, running Next-Generation sequencers, RT-PCR or qPCR (Preferred)
- Working in a regulated environment (CLIA, GLP, GMP, etc.) (Preferred)
- Experience with setting up and running laboratory automation equipment (Preferred)
Physical Requirements
- Physical stamina as you will often spend hours on your feet performing various tests
- Ability to carry up to 50 pounds
