Our client based in Medford, MA is  seeking a cell biologist to help advance the company’s platform technology for mRNA therapeutics. This person support R&D efforts within the company by developing robust cell-based assays to characterize mRNAs for potency and immunogenicity. A strong background in mammalian cell biology and/or immunology is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain cultures of human primary cells as well as immortalized cell lines.
  • Develop quantitative assays for mRNA potency in cells, analyzing target protein expression using techniques such as fluorescence microscopy, immunoblotting, flow cytometry, and plate-based assays (e.g., ELISA)
  • Isolate RNA from cells and quantify target mRNA levels, using techniques such as qRT-PCR and Northern blotting.
  • Design, execute, and analyze screening experiments to support platform development.
  • Work independently and in collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams and organization, present internally to project and scientific teams.
  • Clearly communicate results and recommendations to colleagues, managers, and senior management in a timely manner, assisting in project decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Ph. D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology or similar, with at least 2 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Candidates with a M.S. and at least 5 years of pharma experience will also be considered.
  • Expertise in mammalian cell biology, molecular biology, and assay development is required.
  • Skill in developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing cell-based assays is required.
  • Experience with DNA and mRNA transfections, as well as multiple techniques for quantifying gene expression, is required.
  • Experience with primary & stem cell culture is required.
  • Familiarity with federal and ICH guidance on cell-based assays is desirable.
  • Experience with lentiviral production and transduction is desirable.
  • Experience with CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing is desirable.
